Your Guide to Dining for Spring 2021

Welcome to campus, Quakers! We’re thrilled to see you for Spring Semester 2021. We know you have lots of questions, and we’re here to give you the answers. We realize for many of you, this is your first experience with Penn Dining. And, even for those who have been on a dining plan, things will be very different Spring Semester. You will receive emails leading up to and throughout the semester containing important Dining information. For a list of Frequently Asked Questions, please visit the Spring 2021 dining site.

Penn Eats

Penn Eats, our dining app, is absolutely critical to your dining experience here at Penn. Penn Eats allows you to schedule your arrival time, order ahead, and pay using contactless payment. When visiting any of our locations, please ensure you bring your mask, PennOpen Pass, and your PennCard which contains your Dining Plan (Swipes and Dining Dollars)

In our residential locations, you must schedule your arrival time to enter the dining café. We ask that guests consider scheduling their arrival times during non-peak hours to reduce lines and ensure that meals can be picked up in a timely manner. Peak hours are typically 11am-1pm and 5pm-7pm (M-F), and 11am-1pm (Sat & Sun).

Move-In hours will differ slightly from regular Spring 2021 hours of operation.

At our retail cafés, orders should be placed in advance. Houston Market and Starbucks do take walk-in orders, though we strongly encourage ordering in advance to reduce lines and minimize your wait time. However, Lauder House Late Night Retail requires you to order in advance and will not accept walk-in orders due to capacity restrictions.

To better understand how to use Penn Eats at each of our dining locations, please see below:

Residential

Before you visit any of our residential cafés (Hill House, 1920 Commons, Falk at Penn Hillel, Lauder House, and McClelland), you need to schedule your arrival time using the Penn Eats app. Our residential cafés operate using the Pick 5 program, which allows you to get one entrée, three sides, and a beverage.

Note: McClelland, which is located inside the Quad, is only open to Quad residents. All other locations are open to all students. Additionally, Kings Court/English House dining will be closed for the semester.

To schedule your arrival time:

1) Download the Penn Eats app. Visit upenn.edu/penneats for download instructions.

2) Select a dining café

3) Choose your arrival time

Hill House, 1920 Commons, Falk @ Penn Hillel,

Lauder House, and McClelland

Once you’ve scheduled your arrival time, head to the café. Show your green Penn Open Pass to enter the building, then head to our cashier station to swipe in using Penn Eats. Our residential cafés operate using the Pick 5 program, which allows you to get one entrée, three sides, and a beverage.

When public health guidelines allow, indoor seating reservations will be offered using the Penn Eats reservation system.

Falk at Penn Hillel: Shabbat and Cholent Meals

Shabbat and Cholent meals can be ordered in advance using Penn Eats. Orders must be placed by noon every Friday and will be available for pick up Fridays during dinner.

Retail

Before you visit Houston Market or Starbucks, we highly encourage you to place your order in advance; however, when visiting Lauder House Late Night Retail, you must place your order ahead of time using the Penn Eats app.

To place your order:

1) Download the Penn Eats app. Visit upenn.edu/penneats for download instructions.

2) Select a dining café

3) Choose and customize your items

4) Select your payment method

5) When your order is confirmed, you will be given a pick-up time. Please proceed to the café at that time.

Houston Market

When visiting Houston Market, you will enter through the main doors in the courtyard of Penn Commons. If you ordered using Penn Eats, you will be able to enter the building when you receive notification that your order is ready for pick-up. If you would like to order using our kiosks in Houston Market, you will be able to enter as long as there are open spaces in line.

If you order from a kiosk and would like to pay with cash, you will need to pay for your order at The Market Café. This is the only station accepting cash transactions.

Starbucks

At Starbucks, you will enter through the lower-level courtyard entrance (located between 1920 Commons and Harnwell College House). Starbucks offers walk-in orders and order in advance. We recommend ordering in advance using Penn Eats. The app allows you to order and pay in advance, and also notifies you when your order is ready.

Lauder House Late Night Retail

If you would like to place an order at Lauder House Late Night Retail, you must order via the Penn Eats app. Walk-in orders will not be accepted at this location due to capacity restrictions.

Gourmet Grocer

Gourmet Grocer is another retail location we offer, which operates on a walk-in basis and does not require a reservation on Penn Eats.
